Guilty: Dana Stubblefield

25.jpg

Dana Stubblefield was a former football defense player. Currently, he is the defensive line coach of the varsity at the Valley Christian High School in California. After the 5-year investigation on the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALCO) incident, he was pleaded guilty. Sadly, he was the second athlete aside from Marion Jones who lied to federal agents regarding the use of performance-enhancing drugs or steroids. The school where Stubblefield is working with doesn’t have any decision yet whether they would still let Stubblefield work with them.

I think Stubblefield has some regrets regarding the issue. Based on his records, he won a lot of titles from 1993 until 2004. I’m sure his own skill per se can lead him to victory even without the use of any steroids. This issue would be a great lesson for any athletes. I hope that cases like this would not happen again.

Three-game Sweep in Baseball

Grambling State answered in the fourth and upped its lead to 7-3 when freshman Adrian Turner recorded a three-run homer to right. Prairie View wouldn’t go away as they added five runs over the next two frames to regain an 8-7 advantage going into the top of the sixth. Down by one run entering the top of the eighth, the Tigers tied the game at 8-8 after a solo homer by Justin Kelly and the defense came through in the bottom half as reliever Matt Morales retired the side in order. In the top of the ninth, GSU catcher Shannon Meheia opened the inning with a single but was thrown out at second after Anthony Clifton hit into a fielder’s choice. However, Clifton made the most of the situation and moved to third after stealing second combined with an error by Prairie View pitcher Mark Almaguer with one out.

Clock’s Ticking on Isiah Thomas; Replacements Abound

Isiah Thomas is at risk of being fired due to public clamor on the losses of the Knicks. Garden chairman James Dolan is the only one that will determine when Thomas will be fired. The Knicks’ last loss was 108-82 to the Warriors where the spectators were furious at the coaching style of Mr. Thomas.

But the question is who will replace him? There have been numerous speculations but it is still up to Mr. Dolan. Personally, I do not want to blame the coach for everything. Basketball is a team effort. Everybody is accountable, win or lose.

O’Neal’s two blocked shots made him the third player in NBA history to have 26,000 points, 11,500 rebounds and 2,500 blocks. The others are Kareem-Abdul Jabaar and Hakeem Olajuwon. The intense victory stemmed Phoenix’s slide in the standings, pulling them a game ahead of Dallas for the No. 6 spot in the West. Former Sun Kurt Thomas made an 18-footer to put the Spurs ahead 85-80 with 5:12 to play. A frustrated Suns coach Mike D’Antoni drew a technical moments later, but Ginobili missed the free throw in a sign of things too come. Nash’s 3-pointer cut it to 85-83 with 3:40 to play. A 24-second clock violation by San Antonio led to Stoudemire’s driving shot over Duncan that tied it at 85 with 2:58 left.

England names John Terry as new captain

Installing the new captain on England’s team seems to be a very good call for the Brits. Even former captain David Beckham was impressed, (despite the fact that he had to lose the prestigious position to the new king of his country’s most well obsessed over sports). According to an interview by Fox, Beckham especially likes Terry’s approach to training. He finds it effective with its accurate and serious nature. He also said that Terry knew how to communicate with his team, which is always good because they are able pull off exactly what he needs. England is scheduled for a match against the United States.

Missing in action

The sports world did not see a shadow of Ray Allen during the first four games at the East finals. Luckily, the would-have been-dead-man-walking, (his career would have been all up in smokes if he did not do something to make up for his absence) more than made up for his missing-in-action stint with a play that has got the crowd roaring. Allen was the reason why his team was able to make it off to the finals wherein they will be taking on Boston celtics. For now though, Allen claims he is just happy they could all go home and get a good night’s rest.
