Andy Roddick, the world’s former number one player will be seeing action at the Japan Open tennis tournament in September. This was according to the Japan Tennis Association. Other top players expected to be part of this event is David Ferrer of Spain

who happens to be last year’s winner. The even will be September 29 till October 15, 2008. In addition to the top player list, Kei Nishikori who at the age of 18 became the youngest Japanese player to break into the top 100 of the men’s world rankings. I guess we will be seeing some tennis action this September.

Injured Champ

In an athlete’s life, there are times when you will hit the end of your ropes, but not Tiger Woods. The world’s number one golfer and 13-time major winner has had surgery on his left knee. Woods had surgery on the same knee twice and he is expected to be sidelined for four to six weeks. The golf champion wouldn’t be able to defend his title at the Wachovia Championship scheduled on May 1-4. In a statement by Woods, he said that he has been through this before and he knows how to handle it. He is a true champ indeed.

Arenas ready to be back in playoffs

The Washington Wizard’s guard Arenas is excited and all psyched after their practice. He knows that he hasn’t played in a long time, but the shot is still there, so when he comes off that bench, there is going to be some trouble. He was out of the wizards because he had to undergo a knee surgery.

Arenas, usually a master of self-promotion, began a media boycott when he returned from a 66-game absence on April 2. He steered cleared of the cameras and scribes until the regular season was over.

Chicago Bulls Fire Boylan

As with the case of the Knicks, the Chicago bulls have fired Coach Jim Boylan. The Bulls won 49 games last season, but took a big step backward in 2007-’08, finishing 33-49. After their disappointing and disturbing performance for the season, John Paxson had decided to do that act although he said he was the one accountable for that.

This move was the first of the changes that is to come to the Bulls for the next season. I hope they can get back into their game as they used to do way back before.

Garnett Misses Practice Again

Kevin Garnett missed his second straight practice for family reasons. But his team is confident that he will give his best when the game comes against Atlanta. He was absent because his wife had delivered a baby as newspapers reported.

Garnett exceeded his season averages in the games with 23.7 points, 13.7 rebounds and a 62.5 percent shooting percentage.

His teammates say that when Garnett is present, their defensive intensity is always tops. But since he was absent, the intensity was not that high. Fortunately, their game has been delayed since their opponent has not yet finished their previous games.

Hornets battle Mavericks

Dallas Mavericks comment that they were pleased to be facing the New Orleans Hornets in the opening round of the NBA playoffs, rather than the top-seeded Los Angeles Lakers. Getting what they wished for may be an exciting event for both teams.

The Hornets haven’t been playing their best basketball lately, losing four of their last six games. But that doesn’t mean that they will lose immediately to the Mavericks although experience-wise the Mavericks has the upper hand. Hoping for the best and expecting the worst, my bet is on the Mavericks.
